Though the curtains are still closed, LuHi theatre is already buzzing with scripts, stage lights, and laughter. As rehearsals for The 39 Steps kick into gear, the cast is racing against the clock to change a classic into a fast-paced comedy. With only thirty rehearsals to get it stage-ready, the pressure is on.
What makes this play especially unique is that it mixes suspense with comedy. Cast member Katie Throp said that, “Other plays have been pretty serious, so it is hard to try to find that balance between trying to be upset and trying to be funny at the same time.” She added that comedies bring their own challenges: “because you have to know your comedic timing and you have to try not to laugh when you are doing your comedic timing!”
Katie hopes that by opening night, the audience will see the heart behind all their hard work. She said, “I really hope that they feel the love of God through this performance. I love my theatre because we not only showcase what we can do, but also what God can do.”
As opening night gets closer, anticipation is building on and off the stage. The cast is eager to bring their hard work, dedication, creativity, and laughter to the audience, turning their rehearsals into polished performances. The 39 Steps is bound to keep the audience on the edge of their seats.
