Have you ever taken a summer class? What are you doing during the month of June? LuHi has several courses offered for students to take this summer. Now is the time to consider any of the offerings and sign up for an accelerated version of a full semester class. Whether you are trying to fit other elective classes into your schedule or you just want to make room for a study hall, it might be worth checking out the list of possibilities this summer. Student Audrey Collier (9) said, “I would want to take [a summer class] because it would give more opportunities to take different electives during the upcoming school year! I found out about summer classes through friends who took some last summer and through my teachers talking about them!”
Summer 2025 Courses Offered:
• Men’s and Women’s Health (9th and 10th grade)
• World Geography (9th and 10th grade)
• Personal Finance (10th – 12th grade)
• Public Speaking (10th – 12th grade)
Mr. Thomack, LuHi’s Dean of Academics said, “The benefit is that nearly all of the summer classes are graduation requirements at Lutheran High School. Health, Geography and Public Speaking are all classes that students must take and pass in order to graduate at the end of four years.”
The summer session will run from June 9th through June 27th. Students have the option of signing up for a morning (9am-12pm) or an afternoon session (from 12:30pm-3:30pm). While classes take place Monday through Friday for three weeks, the in-person days are Tuesday and Thursday at school and Monday and Friday involve online work. It is worth noting that attendance is required and if ever absent, you must have a parent email the teacher excusing them. If a student misses more than one day they may be dropped from the class without credit. What can you expect in terms of a class final? Each course will have a final assessment. In some classes this may be a written test and in others it will be a final project or presentation.
Normally if a student wanted to take classes for credit over the summer, they would have to enroll at a different institution and pay for it. An added benefit of LuHi’s summer offerings is that they are free for any LuHi student to take. All summer classes are currently a semester class and count for 0.5 credits.
New this year, students can now take Personal Finance as a summer course. Thomack said this is “…not a graduation requirement, but has tremendous interest across most of the grades.” When asked if there are plans to add more classes in the future, Mr. Thomack stated, “We will continue to evaluate courses offered during the school year for summer offerings.”
Registration is open through May 1st and if a course section is not full at that time registrations will be
accepted until those slots are full until June 1st.
