Each day of the week there is a lunch option available for purchase at LuHi. The food options have changed slightly over the years and the vendor selection continues to be an important decision in the scheme of overall day-to-day operations at the school.
Reasonable pricing and degree of convenience of transportation are two main prerequisites. “The [stores] that deliver are nice and save time,” Beth McSpadden from School Services said. “We had Subway as an option, but we found Capriotti’s and they were a LuHi family. Originally, we only sold their cold sandwiches, but now we have their hot sandwiches and salads as well.”
The other unique thing about the lunch program is that all of the profit goes right back into the school’s organizations, creating a cycle. The service teams get the proceeds from the days that Panda Express and Noodles and Company are offered. Profits from Papa John’s pizza goes toward EF Tours. National Honor Society benefits from Chick-fil-a day and earnings from Capriotti’s goes to Lions for Life. The more popular the food option, the more profit that is made, ultimately benefitting LuHi all around.
“I really like Panda Express and Noodles and Company,” commented freshman Anna Kate Wiley. Additionally, pizza seems to be popular because of the excellent price on slices. Bella Skoog, a junior at Lutheran, was asked what food options had changed over her time at the school. She replied, “I want Cane’s back honestly. Like Cane’s, it was so good freshman year. ” Just as Skoog reminisces, Raising Canes was an option in previous years, but the company was switched out when they raised their prices. This year seems to be off to a great start with a good variety of food offerings, appealing to all tastes and cravings.
