Lutheran’s Theater Department is very excited for their upcoming spring production of Newsies! LuHi students are extremely talented and have made the casting decision very difficult for the directors this year. However, how does the casting actually go, in terms of auditions?
In this particular production there are several different positions that students have the opportunity to fill: actors, techies, dancers, and pit orchestra musicians. If you decide to audition as an actor or a dancer you will start off with learning choreography for a two hour long audition. Additionally, actors have to prepare a monologue and a song for their individual audition. Callbacks are a possibility for some, so make sure your calendar is free. This means that the directors want to see more from you to ensure you are a good fit for the part they intend.
The techies’ auditions are a little different than the acting side of the show. They have to market themselves to the directors and showcase their talents and abilities for the behind the scenes aspect of a musical.
Lastly, the orchestra plays the score during the entire show so they have to select and prepare music to play for their audition.
Auditions can be a very scary process and it takes a lot of courage to put yourself out there and try new things. Congratulations to everyone who got cast in Newsies! LuHi is very excited to see what you put together in the spring!
