With the rise of the Norovirus, it’s important for students to be knowledgeable on how to prevent it, as well as treat the virus if they happen to get it. Large numbers of students and teachers miss school due to the stomach bug, causing some schools to even begin e-learning once again.
The Norovirus is a highly contagious stomach bug that lasts up to three days of vomiting and diarrhea. This virus is contagious from the minute you feel sick to up to three days after feeling this way, so it’s vital for students to remain in their homes while they recover. Further “proper hand washing and other simple steps can help prevent getting and spreading the Norovirus” (cdc.gov).
If anyone is worried about the virus, washing their hands well and often is a great way to reduce the spread. It’s important to note that hand sanitizer doesn’t appear to help with preventing the illness, however, as this isn’t another COVID-19. It is simply the stomach-flu or food poisoning that happens to appear every so often, so worry of another worldwide pandemic should be settled.
If someone contracts the virus, it’s crucial to stay hydrated, considering all the fluids being drained from the body. Medical care should be sought if the dehydration gets worse. Also note that antibiotics do not help fight the virus, as they fight bacteria instead.
So, make sure to go home and stay home if you get the virus to prevent spreading it to those around you.
