LuHi is excited to try a new mission trip! Our school is taking the first steps towards having a mission trip to Comas, Peru. While details are still being finalized, the following explores what the mission trip might resemble. The mission trip is coordinated by the organization The Lost Children of Peru. They feed the people of the slums in Peru and teach them about God. They invite churches and schools to help evangelize to the community in the slums. Bibles are handed out, bread is given to those in need and houses are built for the homeless. In just 2024, The Lost Children of Peru served over “16,000 plates, over 25,000 attendees, over 1,000 barber shop students, 9 missionary groups with families and organizations, two houses had been built, 300 bible distribution, over 8,000 breads been delivered, 300 bags of groceries and stairs been built in the community.”
Their purpose is to show compassion and serve through their calling. The founder, Larry Good, states, “ I felt a clear purpose. I was to help children in desperate need. Children without homes, without food, without a school, without anyone to lift them up.” Even the smallest amount of compassion can change someone’s life, even if it seems worthless.
So how will this mission trip affect LuHi students? Many students deepen their faith and gain much personal growth from attending mission trips. They gain cultural awareness through what other communities that aren’t their own are going through. Overall, you may gain a lot from any mission trip, just follow what you’re called to do.
