It’s the most wonderful time of the year! But, besides Jesus’ birth, what makes it so wonderful? Is it the snow, the decorations, the shopping, the music or the classic Christmas movies? When I say “classic Christmas movies” what do you think of? How the Grinch Stole Christmas? Which version? Did you know there were three options? The first one is the original 1966 animated TV special, then the 2000 live-action film starring Jim Carry, and finally the 2018 animated film The Grinch. After a poll of the LuHi student body they have come to the conclusion that the 2000 live-action film is the best Grinch movie. It was a close win with the 2018 animated film getting 38.7% and the winning film having a close 48.1%.
The original animated film only got 13.1% of the votes but as one of the voters Alexandra Younce said “I grew up reading that book and watching that movie so it is super nostalgic to me”. Even adding that the live action grinch freaks her out. On the other hand a winning Grinch team member Brileigh Stamer, a sophomore states “The Jim Carrey Grinch is the best because he totally becomes the character with all the energy, sarcasm and wild expressions. He makes the Grinch feel real and unforgettable.
The movie is funny, chaotic and still sweet in a way no other version pulls off”. As many others also said Jim Carrey is an amazing actor and did a great job not only in bringing the character and emotions to life but also making it the popular and well loved film it is. Although as many people believe Jim Carrey is a well loved actor and Grinch some people have other opinions. Such as a freshman who said the live-action one “scares me a little bit”. As well as lots of love towards the classic and live-action films there are also many fans of the 2018 animated film. A junior at LuHi, Anna Cochran, claims that “The old animated one is just far too old for me; the live-action one is pretty odd and creepy; and the new animated one is hilarious and cute making it the best holiday movie ever, in my opinion.” As well as Harper Connett saying that she chose the film “because I feel like it has more humor than any of the others with the fat reindeer”.
So with all the love of all the different Grinch movies, which one do you like the best?
