When the final bell rings, some students head straight home, while others rush to practice. Balancing school, homework and sports can be a lot sometimes. It can be stressful, but let’s stop and think about something: all the pressure of school and sports is a privilege. We get to work hard at a school we love and get to pursue the sports we have passion for. Gaige Kersten, a freshman at LuHi this year, and she is a great example of a wonderful student who balances school and sports effectively.
Gaige swims competitively and also plays tennis. Right after school, she goes to her activities for about 2 hours. She doesn’t get home until 9:00 and she still has to do homework. To manage this, she understands that taking advantage is important. “I take advantage of my study hall and the extra minutes in class.” Every minute counts, and being efficient will set us up for success. The work is hard but the opportunity of working hard is a blessing. Gaige knows that the work she does is just the right amount. “The work is just enough to where I know I’m working hard.” The feeling of completing an assignment is a great feeling and that work will pay off. Life would be boring without work. I think we get so caught up in the feeling of being overwhelmed but when we stop and think about the work, we are actually so blessed for everything we get to do.
So how do you really balance school and sports? Do you take advantage of every minute because every minute counts? The work we put in will pay off, God has a plan. At the end of the day, we are blessed to have the opportunity to learn and grow in both school and sports.
