Rain or shine, you can find 16 Lady Lions hard at work on the fields at Salisbury Regional Park. They have represented Lutheran High School on the JV Softball team, with an impressive 9-0 record, to date. These ladies call Salisbury Field 4 home and have spent countless hours preparing for their packed schedule. From practicing and running drills in 100-degree heat to slipping and sliding in the mud during a downpour, the JV squad has pushed themselves towards excellence in the game.
Their stellar season began in August, a week before school started with camp and tryouts. With a fast and furious start, they had their first game of the season against the Liberty Lancers, August 14th, the first day of school. Our Lady Lions have collected a remarkable 113 runs over 9 games and have allowed just 16 opposing runs against them.
Player Addalyn DeJager, catcher and utility player, reported that her favorite thing about playing softball for Lutheran has been the connection with the other players. Her personal quote for softball is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” She goes on to say, “Softball is about each player doing their personal best for the benefit of the team. If we all put the team first, we will be winners no matter the scoreboard at the end of the game.”
The JV squad is coached by Coach Tara Kohl and Assisted by Coach Hannah DiFabio. Coach Kohl had this to say about her Lady Lions, “The JV softball girls are such a special team. It’s a blessing to coach them! They always turn challenges into something positive. Just like when it rained and we had practice in the mud, they made the most of it and created a fun memory!”
